Superb chinese Porcelain Plate, Kangxi Period (1662-1722), literary masterpiece
The story on the plate is taken from the „Romance of the Three Kingdoms“ (Sanguo Yanyi), created by Luo Guanzhong (1330-1400), a historical novel and one of the greatest Chinese literary masterpieces.
The charger is elaborately decorated with the bearded Dong Zhuo on the terrace of the Fengyi Pavilion, pointing towards his foster son Lü Bu with spear and feathered headdress, and the elegant lady Diaochan. The scene is set within a garden landscape with gnarled rocks and trees, within a border of buddhist symbols and flower sprays on the everted rim.
You can find an Illustration from A Newly Proofed Edition of the „Romance of the Three Kingdoms“, edited by Zhou Yuejiao, 1591 edition: „Fengyi Pavilion, Lü Bu, Diaochan“.

Excellent condition: one hairline – further only the typical traces of production and use.
A great collectors piece, hard to find!
