Pair chinese Fahua Vases, early Ming Dynasty, 15th Century
Two extremely rare ceramic vases with fahua lotus decoration in sancai glaze from the early Ming Dynasty – Northern Fahua Wares.

Fahua-decorated pottery uses thin, raised lines to delineate the decorative areas. The literal translation of Fahua is „regulated decoration.“
The unglazed ceramic or porcelain object is fired, and then the individual areas created by the lines are covered with enamel.
„Northern Fahua ware“ is low-fired stoneware. Typically, the pieces have delicate glazes that, when chipped, reveal a pinkish-beige or yellowish-brown stoneware body. Therefore, undamaged „Northern Fahua ware“ objects are rare.
In contrast, „Southern Fahua ware“ was made from high-fired porcelain and is significantly more durable.

Condition: both with some ware and missing glaze; right one with glued part at base rim (last photo) – further no cracks, hairlines or restorations.
